PLATO: BEAUTY IS AN "IDEA"

Some of Plato and Aristotle's thoughts are connected to "art and aesthetics". Even though both of them doesn't made any theory on art.One great example  is that both Philosophers first established the essential perceptions like "form and content", and on their dissertation about "imitation" or "mimesis". Also, some of the important opposite views of Plato and Aristotle was that Plato always points out that imitation must only be focused on forms of ideas that dominates the universe, that are also exposed in the "order, harmony, and balance" of our real
world.

HOSTILITY TO ART

Artists, for Plato don't have the ability  to infer "divine ideas".Because he said, philosophy should be the only thing to find its real significance. He also said that "works of art" can deceive. It will  always keep us guessing for its real meaning. In that sense, the author said, that art should be separated from Plato's  visualized "ideal society".
From Plato's point of view, "order in the universe" is taken from principles of mathematics that is a sense of "rational thought". Plato on the other hand, gives a significant representation for the discussion about art  and a "solid foundation" of the function of art for the westerners for "imitating nature", by emphasizing that only the "ideal" is to be copied.
